Plan at a glance
- Dadonghai is a useful starting point for beach time with city access.
- Compare Yalong Bay for a beach-led stay and Haitang Bay for a particular resort.
- Judge the hotel’s actual location, not just the bay named in its listing.
- Use one base for a short stay unless changing hotels has a clear benefit.
Start with the holiday you want
There is no single winner among Sanya beaches. The better choice depends on what you want within easy reach: restaurants, a hotel pool, a beach path or a particular day trip. Begin with your normal holiday day. If you plan to leave the resort every morning, paying for facilities you barely use may offer little value.
If you want breakfast, a swim, lunch and a quiet afternoon in one place, the property matters more. Look at the room, pool access and food options together. A lower room price can be offset by frequent transfers or meals you did not budget for.
Write down three priorities before comparing hotels. For example: easy evening meals, a short walk to the sand and one visit to Nanshan. Another group might choose a good children’s pool, a family room and an island outing. These lists can lead to different bays without either choice being wrong.
Dadonghai: compare it for beach and city time
Dadonghai is worth checking when you want a beach stay without making every meal a resort meal. Its appeal is the combination of a bay and an urban setting. It can suit a first visit where you want to step out, eat nearby and include some city time.
Do not assume every room here is quiet or directly on the beach. Check whether the room faces a busy road, entertainment area or internal courtyard. If early nights matter, ask the property about evening noise and choose a room on that basis.
Walkability needs a closer look than distance on a booking map. A short straight line may conceal a steep approach or an inconvenient crossing. Travellers using a stroller or with limited walking capacity should ask for the actual route from the lobby to the beach, including steps.

Yalong Bay: compare it for a beach-led stay
Yalong Bay is a useful area to shortlist when you expect to spend much of the holiday at the beach and hotel. Compare direct access, outdoor shade and the distance between the room, breakfast and pool. These details affect each day more than a long list of decorative room features.
The bay also has dining and commercial areas, including Hundred Flowers Valley. Check how your shortlisted hotel connects to the places where you would actually eat; being in the same bay does not make every restaurant a short walk away.
The nearby tropical forest park is a separate outing. Do not count it as a free hotel facility or assume it fits into a quick walk before lunch. If you want both forest scenery and beach time, give each its own part of the day and include travel and tickets in the budget.

Haitang Bay: choose the resort deliberately
Haitang Bay is particularly relevant when you are choosing a resort for its facilities. Start with what is included in the exact rate: breakfast for how many guests, pool access, children’s activities and any attraction admission. An appealing hotel photograph does not tell you which benefits belong to your booking.
Families should check room occupancy before comparing prices. Ask whether an extra bed is permitted, whether breakfast covers the child, and whether an advertised activity is supervised or simply a play space. These are questions for the actual property; they are not uniform across the bay.
If you plan to visit Wuzhizhou, check the transfer to its mainland pier. Do not confuse an island ticket with transport from your hotel. Likewise, an Atlantis visit requires checking the particular attraction and ticket product; staying elsewhere in Haitang Bay does not automatically provide access.

Sanya Bay: walks and sunset time
Sanya Bay is a candidate if waterfront walks and sunset time matter to you. The Coconut Dream Corridor is part of its appeal. Compare the position of each hotel along the bay rather than treating the whole shoreline as one interchangeable location.
A sea-facing room and direct beach access are different things. Look for the actual route out of the property and across any road. For a short evening walk, that route may matter more than the view from a high floor.
Use Sanya Bay as a base because its daily routine suits you, not because a broad description says it is near everything. Check separate journeys to the airport, Nanshan and any east-side outings. One convenient transfer does not make every sightseeing day short.

Compare the whole stay before you book
Put the same items beside each hotel: nights, room occupancy, breakfast, transfers, expected meals and paid facilities. If one rate includes extras, list those explicitly rather than assuming a higher room price is worse value. Keep optional activities separate so you can see the basic cost clearly.
For a two- or three-night stay, changing bays usually needs a strong reason. You may lose a morning packing and spend the afternoon waiting for a room. If you do split a longer trip, put each outing near the base that suits it and confirm luggage arrangements between hotels.
Finally, separate beach scenery from swimming suitability. Use only areas currently open for swimming and follow local flags and staff instructions. Resort facilities can be a useful alternative when the sea is unsuitable, but check the actual pool rules and opening arrangements too.
For the wider route, use our first-visit Sanya guide. Keep this beach decision focused on the place where you will spend most of your time; you do not need to visit every bay to have a good stay.
