Back in Beijing, explore a hutong neighbourhood and its courtyard-house exteriors. Any residential visit needs the owner’s permission. Visit Zhangbi in Jiexiu before returning for the train to Xi’an North. Above ground, look at fortified village lanes and temple details; below ground, enter only the tunnel sections open to visitors with your guide. Low passages and steps may be unsuitable for limited mobility. Leave sufficient time for the drive back, luggage collection and second-class rail departure.

Begin at the Terracotta Army, giving the excavation halls around three hours before returning to the city. Continue to the wall for a chosen walking section, or request a separately paid bicycle rental if suitable. End among the Muslim Quarter’s food streets. The bronze-chariot display requires its own ticket and internal-transfer checks rather than being assumed beside the three main pits.

Visit Shaanxi History Museum for objects that place the ancient capitals in a wider regional story, then travel separately to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda precinct. These are different sites, with separate access arrangements. Continue to Shuyuanmen for a selected craft introduction such as rubbing, paper cutting, knotting or shadow puppetry.
