The experience and its setting
For conservation-focused Wolong Panda Base trips, learn about the work of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. The base combines research and care with designated visitor interpretation. A green mountain setting does not make enclosure viewing the same as seeing wild pandas in an unrestricted habitat.
What to notice
On patient Wolong Panda Base trips, notice how animals move, rest or use their enclosures when visible. Different individuals have different routines, and access may change with welfare needs. Do not build the visit around a guaranteed baby panda, a named animal or a particular feeding moment.
Shenshuping should not be confused with other Wolong research facilities or with the separate bases in Chengdu, Dujiangyan or Ya’an. This page does not include a keeper role, animal contact or access to a breeding or reintroduction zone.
Access and visitor arrangements
Confirm the current official visitor and foreign-passport booking arrangements, exact entrance and any enclosure changes. Research, animal care, roads and weather affect the day. An older volunteer advertisement does not establish an operating programme or permission to feed animals.
Plan the visit
- Time and transport
- For realistic Wolong Panda Base trips, include the road approach from the actual hotel or station and the complete return, with time for local walking and pauses. Its association with Aba does not make it a short detour from Jiuzhaigou. Regional journeys should be sequenced around actual roads rather than a shared prefecture name.
- Comfort and respect
- Keep quiet, follow barriers and do not use food or noise to attract pandas. Respect photography rules and be prepared for changing mountain weather. Discuss mobility needs before choosing a route through the actual visitor areas.
