7-Day Daocheng Yading Tour from Chengdu | Route 318 & Sacred Lakes

Your Daocheng Yading tour from Chengdu starts with the following arrangements. Meet your arrival team at the airport or railway station confirmed in the booking and transfer to the downtown hotel. Leave the first evening unscheduled to rest and prepare for the plateau roads.

This itinerary includes both substantial road travel and demanding high-altitude walking. Discuss the Yading long-route day and its return drive before committing to onward tickets; an easy first night does not make the later stages suitable for everyone.

Drive west through the operating road and tunnel network toward Kangding, then follow the agreed Route 318 approach into Xinduqiao. Plan about 6–8 hours of driving before longer photo and meal stops. The exact itinerary specifies whether the Zheduo pass road, around 4,300 metres, is operating or a permitted alternative is used.

After reaching the highland town, keep activity modest around streams, farms and nearby public viewpoints. The hotel’s oxygen equipment, heating and availability are confirmed in writing; oxygen is not a guarantee against altitude illness.

Xinduqiao

Continue to Yajiang, normally about 1.5–2.5 hours by road depending on the hotel and stops. Keep this stage intentionally shorter, leaving an afternoon to rest before the higher passes tomorrow.

The selected town hotel is normally lower than Xinduqiao, but its actual address and sleeping altitude must be checked rather than assuming every property labelled ‘Yajiang’ sits at the same elevation. The day is a pacing buffer, not a promise that everyone has acclimatised.

Yajiang

Cross the high grassland corridor toward Litang, stopping at the planned open monastery and public town areas. Litang itself is around 4,000 metres, so even brief sightseeing is not a low-altitude break. Continue past the Haizi Mountain landscape toward Shangri-La Town in Daocheng County.

Allow roughly 6–8 hours of driving before monastery time and rest stops, with portions of the route around 4,500 metres. Stay two nights near the Yading gateway. This Shangri-La Town is in Sichuan and is not Shangri-La city in Yunnan.

Litang Monastery · Haizi Mountain

Take the official park shuttle to the managed walking area and follow the shorter route through Chonggu Monastery toward Pearl Lake. Allow roughly 2–3 hours of walking and rests, in addition to the long shuttle approach and queues. The sacred peak Xiannairi may reflect in the lake when cloud, wind and water allow.

This is shorter than tomorrow’s upper-lake trek, not a low-altitude easy walk: the visitor circuit is roughly 3,800–4,100 metres with climbs and steps. Turn around earlier if necessary and return to the gateway hotel. Two-day entry and scenic transport charges are itemised rather than assumed to give free re-entry.

Chonggu Monastery · Pearl Lake Yading

Start early for the official shuttle and the separate electric-car connection to Luorong Pasture. The route to Milk Lake and Five-Coloured Lake is roughly 10 kilometres return, with about 500–550 metres of ascent. Allow approximately 6–8 hours for walking at elevations reaching around 4,700 metres. Horses operate only on permitted sections and do not replace the upper climb.

After leaving the park, continue to Yajiang, allowing about 5–6 hours on the road. This is a very long day: the walking and drive alone can total around 11–14 hours, before park transfers, meals and rest stops. Expect a late arrival and follow the guide’s turnaround instructions if weather, access or your condition changes. Stay at a local hotel in Yajiang; a four-star-or-higher standard is not promised.

Luorong Pasture · Milk Lake and Five-Coloured Lake

Return from Yajiang toward Chengdu via the operating Kangding corridor. Provisionally allow 6–8 hours on the road before longer breaks and the final airport or station transfer. Mountain weather and road controls can lengthen the day.

Only choose a sufficiently late departure after the preceding Yading day and the actual road schedule have been resolved. If the long-route plan requires an extra night, this transfer and the overall duration must be revised together before sale.
