Plan at a glance
- Arrange your entry before making the journey to the temple
- See the rock carvings and temple halls in one manageable outing
- Keep the afternoon flexible when the available slot changes
Free admission still needs a reservation
Lingyin Temple tickets and reservation rules changed when the Lingyin–Feilai Feng scenic area became admission-free in December 2025. The practical task is now to secure a timed reservation, rather than budget for the old separate scenic-area and temple tickets. Transport, meals and guiding remain separate costs.
Use the official Hangzhou Lingyin Feilai Peak mini-program on WeChat or Alipay. The published rules allow passport reservations, normally from one to seven days ahead, with slots opening at 08:00 seven days before the visit. Enter the details of the passport you will carry and check the chosen date and session carefully.
The published opening hours are 07:30–17:30, with verification ending 30 minutes before closing. Follow the arrival window on your actual reservation. These operating details should be checked again for your date, especially around holidays or special arrangements.

If the date is full, use the official waitlist
Do not travel to the entrance expecting staff to register you on arrival. The temple's February 2026 notice ended on-site registration from 1 February. An older page describing walk-in registration should not be used to plan the visit.
The official platform offers a waitlist. Apply no later than 20:00 on the day before your intended visit, then check the platform or its service messages for the result. Joining the queue is not a confirmed entry slot. Keep a lake walk or another outing available until your reservation is successful.
On the day, carry the original valid identity document used for the booking and your reservation voucher. If the app cannot process your details, contact the official assistance line, +86 571 87969691, before travelling. Do not use another person's identity to secure a place.
A guide can help explain the steps and coordinate transport, but cannot promise extra capacity or bypass the booking rules. Ask any service provider to distinguish the free reservation from the service they charge for.

What to see once you enter
Allow roughly two to three hours inside as a starting plan, longer if you like sculpture or temple architecture. Feilai Feng's carvings are cut into the rock around the approach to Lingyin. Look at a few groups carefully rather than rushing past them on the way to the halls.
Inside the temple, move through the halls at a pace that leaves space for worshippers. The visit includes active religious life, not just buildings to photograph. Follow the signs about photography and incense, and keep voices low near prayer areas.
The wider scenic area includes other temples and hillside routes. You do not need to add every climb. Start with the carvings and Lingyin, then decide whether your remaining time and energy suit more walking. Steps and uneven surfaces mean the whole site should not be described as step-free.
If someone in your party needs a shorter route, agree on that before entry. Ask staff about current accessible sections and where people can rest. A shorter visit to selected halls can be more satisfying than an exhausted attempt to cover the entire hillside.
Leave time for the approach and return
Lingyin is west of West Lake, not a stop directly on the east-shore promenade. Plan the road journey from your actual hotel and allow for the final walk. Busy-day traffic controls can change where a car may stop; private transport cannot guarantee a gate-side drop-off.
For a first visit, keep half a day including transport and the entry process. A nearby tea outing can follow if your slot and energy allow, but make it optional rather than tying the temple to a fixed lunch appointment far away.
Wear shoes suitable for damp stone and carry a light rain layer. In heavy rain, reduce hillside walking. Before leaving the entrance area, agree on the return pickup point with your driver or check your public-transport stop. That small decision is easier to make before the crowd disperses in different directions.
