The Xi’an, Wave Valley and Hukou tour compares an imperial burial landscape with a river gorge and weathered sandstone.
Wave Valley’s exposed layers and Ganquan’s narrow passages offer different ways to observe the red sandstone landscape.
Northern rail journeys frame private road visits, with nights in Xi’an, Yan’an and Jingbian.

Your Xi’an, Wave Valley and Hukou tour starts with the following arrangements. Meet your guide and driver at the Xi’an airport or railway station confirmed in your booking, then travel to your hotel by private vehicle. The day stays clear of compulsory sightseeing, allowing for arrival procedures, traffic and time to settle in. Your confirmation names the actual terminal or station and meeting point.
If you arrive early, a short independent walk and a meal near the hotel can be a comfortable first introduction. Recommendations follow the hotel location and your dietary preferences; additional guided visits are agreed separately.
Private road transfers and walking · Allow the listed visits, road journeys and departure procedures

Drive to Lintong, allowing around 1–1.5 hours from central Xi’an, and explore the Terracotta Warriors with your guide. Look at the formations in the excavation pits, the individual modelling of the figures and the traces of colour that make conservation an ongoing task. Keep approximately three hours for the main museum rather than treating the army as a single photo stop.
Continue to Huaqing Palace for its hot-spring remains, gardens and Tang court associations. A conservation-themed educational session can be requested, but laboratory access and handling original Qin objects are not promised or included as ordinary admission. The Song of Everlasting Sorrow is a separately confirmed evening option when operating; choosing it means a later return to Xi’an.

Begin on Xi’an’s City Wall, following part of the ramparts to understand its gates, towers and defensive layout. Continue into the Muslim Quarter for a street walk and a meal of your choice, with time for small food shops rather than a compulsory fixed menu.
Transfer to the confirmed Xi’an station for the northbound high-speed journey to Yan’an. Allow around 1–2 hours on a suitable service, plus station procedures and road links; the actual stations and train are settled for your date. Your guide accompanies the listed rail connection, and a local vehicle completes the transfer to your Yan’an hotel. No additional revolutionary-site circuit is inserted today.

Travel across the Loess Plateau to the Shaanxi visitor side of Hukou, allowing around 2–3 hours each way from Yan’an, with breaks on this substantial road day. Use the official scenic shuttle where required, then follow the permitted viewing areas as the Yellow River narrows into the gorge.
Allow around 1.5–2 hours at the falls, adjusted to the open platforms and river conditions. Water colour, spray, ice and rainbows vary rather than arriving on cue. A local costume photo can be discussed, with rental and photography fees clarified before use; no ride or animal interaction is added. Return to your Yan’an hotel after the visit.

Drive to Jingbian’s Wave Valley, planning roughly 2.5–3.5 hours before the scenic-area visit. The landscape is best read slowly: bands in the red sandstone curve across exposed slopes and narrow passages, recording differences in rock layers and erosion. Use the designated paths rather than stepping onto fragile formations for photographs.
Follow the agreed route through the glass-bridge viewpoint, the red valley and pond below Red Cliff, and the narrow Sky-Piercing Gorge section when open. The bridge and any supplementary ticket are confirmed separately, with an alternative for guests who prefer not to cross. Finish at your Jingbian hotel; access and light depend on weather and the operator’s controls.

Leave Jingbian for Ganquan, allowing roughly 2.5–3.5 hours by road before the canyon visit. Explore the currently authorised Longba and Huashu sections with official scenic transport and guided walking as applicable. Narrow passages, wet footing and changing light call for measured progress, with no promise of a particular sunbeam or access after heavy rain.
Transfer to Ganquan North for the confirmed southbound train to Xi’an, then continue by private vehicle to your hotel. Keep a generous interval between canyon exit and boarding; a planning rail range is around 1–2 hours on a suitable service, not a booked timetable. Both gully access and train availability must fit the same date before confirming this full travel day.
