Follow the Ahe Highway only when its dated opening, vehicle class and entry window allow. Pass the Uxilik wetland setting and stop at authorised viewpoints around Tuolehaite Grassland, with no promise of wildlife, snow views or a green meadow in every season. Provisionally allow a full mountain-road day, around five to seven hours including permitted stops and the actual village-access arrangements.

At Hemu, walk by the bridge and river before settling into the booked wooden lodge. Heating, hot water, bathrooms, luggage access and soundproofing are confirmed for the actual property rather than assumed from a city rating. This Hemu stay excludes breakfast: the following morning’s meal is purchased separately. A road closure requires a fully reviewed alternative, not an off-road shortcut.

Choose the agreed Kanas circuit according to the actual arrival slot: the Three Bays with a selected walking section, lakeshore access, or the dedicated Fish-Watching Pavilion approach. The pavilion has about 1,000 steps after its shuttle and is not an effortless extra to every other option. Boat rides and viewpoint transport have separately confirmed scope. Continue to Burqin for the night; retaining a full Kanas visit after a Hemu morning requires the supplier to verify the whole day’s access and closing times before booking.

Hemu Village · Kanas Lake

Make an early start from Burqin rather than relying on an after-lunch departure for this long route. Allow roughly three to four hours toward Urho, then around two hours on the operating visitor circuit at World Ghost City. Wind-carved ridges and outcrops illustrate the basin’s erosion history; any named rock shapes are interpretations rather than evidence for the legends attached to them.

Continue toward Kuitun, provisionally another 2.5–3.5 hours by road. With roughly 5.5–7.5 hours of driving before the visit, meals and queues, treat this as a full transfer-and-sightseeing day. Carry water, use the scheduled rest stops and check the hotel arrival plan against the date’s road conditions.

Urho World Ghost City

Drive toward Sayram Lake, provisionally about three to four hours before the actual scenic entry arrangements. Spend the agreed afternoon on its managed lakeside circuit and join the planned sailing experience when the booked operator can run it. Vessel, session, equipment and participation conditions must be specified; wind or a suspension calls for an agreed alternative, not a guaranteed lake departure.

Continue through the Guozigou corridor toward Yining, allowing roughly 1.5–2 hours after leaving the lake. Bridge views use authorised stopping points only, with no stopping on the bridge itself. Staying for sunset can push the final drive late, so the chosen lake session and Yining arrival time are reviewed together. Dress for wind and changing mountain temperatures.

Sayram Lake · Guozigou Bridge

Allow roughly three to four hours toward Nalati before the official Sky Grassland shuttle circuit. Use the operating viewpoints and the river-side visitor areas around the named Tianyun, Tianjie and Nomad Families stops; access and seasonal scenery follow the actual circuit. Continue to the flower garden when open, without promising a particular species in bloom.

Join the planned hosted bundle: canopy afternoon tea, a short photo session with nine lightly edited digital images and no styling, a horse-viewing visit, and the agreed music, dance or lamb interaction when the hosts are operating. Travel toward Tangbula, using about 2.5 hours as the initial road allowance before local visits and stops. At the agreed Bee Town venue, visit the Black Bee Science and Technology Museum when operating. A honey-extraction demonstration or supervised hands-on session requires advance confirmation, including age suitability and any bee-product allergy concerns.

Continue through the valley’s authorised scenic stops, looking at meadow, river and forest rather than treating the landscape as an unrestricted driving area. Traditional Kazakh clothing for photographs is an optional locally arranged activity; costume, assistance and any photography service are specified separately. Stay at the confirmed Tangbula property, with its actual heating, bathroom and road access agreed in advance.

Black Bee Science Museum · Tangbula Grassland

Use the northern Duku section only in its officially open season and permitted daily window, with a vehicle allowed for that section. This is a long return across mountain terrain: provisionally allow eight to ten hours including normal stops, with a dated road plan and driver arrangements confirmed before booking. Only safe designated stops are used.

When Duku is closed, review the agreed alternatives before confirming the trip: an authorised G218 and connecting-road route toward the G0711 Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, or a return to Yining followed by the booked train to Urumqi. The tunnel is not on G218 itself. Neither alternative has the same scenery or running time, and extra rail charges, changed transfers or an additional night require agreement. Do not promise the Duku drive for a winter departure or an onward flight that leaves no disruption buffer.
